内容記述 | Japan's present demographic trend may be described by some as a crisis, and by others as an opportunity. The challenges of low fertility and population aging are undeniable such as how the nation will support the growing percentage of frail elderly whose families cannot be the primary caretaker. Care of the elderly has traditionally been the responsibility of the family rather than the state. But considering the growing elderly ratio and the shrinking younger population, and that more women are entering paid work, the family-based care model cannot sufficiently meet this demand. However, the positive potential of a hyper-aged society should also be considered, such as how demand for elderly care may drive research and development and job creation, and lead to new fields of industry that may be shared with other aging societies. | |||||
